All of these causes resonate very strongly with us and, being a competitive group, we thought the Barcelona marathon is the perfect opportunity to do our part and raise funds and further awareness for the charities we've chosen. Each one of us knows someone who has been directly affected by suicide and have seen the terrible effect it can have on an incredibly wide reaching community. Cancer plagues the lives of many women in the UK - another premature death which deals devastating blows to families all across the country. Research is still in its infancy and the scope for growth is enormous.

Suicide is the largest killer of men under 50, with 78% of all UK suicides committed by men. COVID and Lockdown have further exacerbated poor mental health in the young, especially Uni students living isolated in halls. The Papyrus helpline 'HopelineUK' needs funding and relies solely on donations from the public, grants and trusts receiving very limited funding from the government (shock).

There are 11 ovarian cancer-related deaths each day in the UK. It has such a high mortality rate because most women are diagnosed with advanced ovarian cancer at the time of detection due to lack of consistent, publicly-funded screening. Money raised through us will specifically go towards training GPs to help improve early diagnosis, provide support networks for families affected, and as ever, fund life-changing research into treatment and testing.
