Theo loves lego, going to nursery and the power rangers just like most other 4 year olds. However 2 months after his 2nd birthday he increasingly became unsteady on his feet. When he stopped using his right arm so often, it was clear something was seriously wrong. On 10th November 2013 aged 2 years and 2 months a CT scan revealed a 3cm brain tumour plus a cyst that resided deeply within our precious son's brain. The tumour was biopsied and he was diagnosed with (Pilocytic Astrocytoma or JPA). Unfortunatly the tumour is too dangerous to remove, therefore our son had to endure 18 months of chemotherapy which has many side effects. However, majority of these tumours continue to repeatedly grow and require further treatment. But for now we watch and live.
The Brain Tumour Charity has recently started research process to raise money for Paediatric Low Grade Brain Tumour research with this being the first of its kind in the UK/Europe. It will present a real oppotunity to bring about changes to children living with a brain tumour. The centre will bring together multi-disciplinary team of experts in the field to focus on one area. It has the potential to unlock the development of better diagnois and treatments to children living with a low grade brain tumours.
