Charlie was diagnosed with an Oligoastrocytoma grade 2 brain tumour in February 2012 when he was just 8 months old. On 3rd May 2012, at 11 months old, Charlie had an operation at St. George’s Hospital, Tooting, to remove the tumour that was in the right hippocampus region. After 8 hours in surgery, he was moved to intensive care and the consultant confirmed that the operation went very well. After Charlie having MRI scans every 6-12 months to check the growth of the tumour, a scan in April 2014 has shown that the tumour has grown again. Charlie then underwent an 18 month course of chemotherapy. Scans after which showed no reasons for concern, but then yet again a scan in the latter part of last year (2016) confirmed it had returned and in November 2016 he underwent another 6 hour brain operation. So far so good since then, first scan showed it hadn’t returned and there’s another scan in a few months. So all in all he’s been through the wars since he was a baby but he literally smiles the whole way through! His scar is healing well too and he’s SIX in June! How time flies! So many people have supported Team Charlie through the years and as well as the money we've all raised on this page we've also raised around £5,000 offline that we used to buy presents for the childrens unit at the Royal Marsden and gave Charlie and family a holiday fund too! We're still going aiming for our target of £40,000 online!
