A team of intrepid Tesco staff have joined the fight against dementia and are taking part in a Charity of the Year trek to Tanzania to attempt to summit Kilimanjaro.
No walk in the park, Kilimanjaro is the highest freestanding mountain in the world, and the highest mountain on the African continent at 5,896m. Everyone will be pushed to their limits both physically and mentally on this extreme challenge. It is one of the toughest charity events there is and all involved will be following a full training plan to be fit enough to trek on steep trails at altitude to nearly 6,000m.
This year 100,000 people will develop dementia. Together, Alzheimer’s Society, Alzheimer Scotland and Tesco will help make sure they don’t face it alone.
Many people are worried about their memory, but don’t know what to do about it. Others know they have dementia, but have no support. By raising £5 million, Tesco will help Alzheimer’s Society and Alzheimer Scotland build a better future for people with dementia.
This year our target is to raise £5 million and through this:
• For every day of the partnership we want to help 300 people live better with dementia
• We aim to give 100,000 people easy-to-access support and information through the Dementia Community Roadshow
• We aim to help 10,000 isolated families get specialist care and advice through our new dementia support services
• We will fund two vital dementia research scientists to conduct ground breaking research
The money raised by Tesco will fund essential research and bring dementia information, advice and support to communities all over the UK, helping to build a better future for people with dementia.
Any donations you are able to give will be greatly appreciated.
