Story
Welcome to the 2026 Neurokinex Step Up Challenge
Spinal cord injury doesn’t just affect the individual: it impacts their family, friends, colleagues and community. True strength in rehab comes from the support of an injured person’s network which is why this year’s Step Up Challenge is inviting those vital supporters behind our clients to join their loved one to complete the Challenge together.
The Step Up Challenge raises vital funds to safeguard our Step Up Scheme which gives newly injured people six free one-hour rehabilitation sessions. For many this is lifechanging: introducing them to specialist rehab and a supportive community.
It costs Neurokinex £500 to provide each Step Up Scheme place. As a charity, we rely on fundraising to ensure that newly injured people can access this specialist therapy when they need it most.
THREE CHALLENGES
This year's Step Up Challenge will unfold in three stages.
Stage 1 – First Light Challenge (Friday September 4 to Friday September 11)
One of our Directors, Jo Godfrey, will undertake an epic, 8-day 269km (167 mile) walk connecting all three Neurokinex centres: Bristol / Hemel Hempstead / Gatwick.
Stage 2 – Daylight Challenge (Monday September 7 to Friday September 11)
Together, Neurokinex clients will aim to match Jo’s distance by covering 269km during their rehab sessions by pushing, walking, rowing and cycling as one community.
Stage 3 – Twilight Runway Challenge (Saturday September 12)
Concluding at the Twilight Runway Challenge, our Neurokinex community team will race 3km, 5km or 10km along the runway. Pushing, walking, cycling or scooting they will bring this year’s Challenge over the finish line in true team style.
THE GOAL
Our goal of £25,000 will fund 50 Step Up Scheme places for newly injured adults and children. Please donate what you can to safeguard this life-changing opportunity for them.
