Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.

Ceredigion County Council have recommended the closure of our small traditional welsh rural school after putting the school into review less than 8 weeks after the school celebrated it's centenary celebrations last October. We now have 9 months to convince them to extend the final decision to close the school to give us the time needed to action a plan we feel could represent a new way to fund small rural schools in the future
Beulah school was originally opened in 1918 to reduce the travel time of children living in Beulah to the then established schools of their time. Now the council want to close the school and increase that travel time (in alot of cases doubling the commute of parents to the next closest school within Ceredigion) at a time when family budgets as well as council budgets are being stretched.
Ceredigion Country Council is set on promoting the new "in thing" Super Schools as the way forward to educate our children with large class sizes and large travel times for children in the rural communities to attend. There is also evidence that in other areas where new schools have initially taken away pupils from the traditional schools in the area, that within 5-6 years, there is a pattern emerging that the number of children attending the traditional schools start to rise again. Not all children fit into a large school environment and we feel we want to preserve the choices for parents now and in the future before all of the tradional schools disappear completely.
Rural schools will always cost more and will always have shifting numbers of children attending which is why we are looking at new ways to fund our local village school. We want to create an organisation which can buffer council funding during the periods when school numbers drop and grow funds when pupil numbers are high, to stabilise the finances and provide our local school with a secure future. Beulah school building has stood for 100 years and will still be standing in another 100 years. Will modern school building still be looking as good by 2118?
What we need is time. If we can convince the council to give us a stay of execution of 1 year, we can produce a proper business model we feel can work. To do this, we have to argue that by providing the extra time, Ceredigion County Council will not be worse off than by closing Beulah school at the end of the school year in 2019. The more funds we raise, the better our chance we have to make the council listen. We are also running a strong campaign to have local parents pledge that they would want their children to start school at Beulah between 2019 and 2021 because the more children we have, the less money we need to raise.
Please help us to keep our rural welsh traditions alive and provide choice for parents how their children will be educated now and in the future by supporting our campaign.
