Weʼve raised £490 to Set up and run Health and Wellbeing Programme in Jamestown, Ghana
- Felixstowe, Suffolk, UK
- Funded on Thursday, 31st January 2019
Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered nonprofit.
The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.
We are registered nurses who in January 2018 travelled to Accra in Ghana to do charity work in a hospital. We were so concerned by the level of poverty within the Jamestown community, where we were staying, that we abandoned our hospital project and set up a health and well being clinic on the beach there. Without electricity, running water or a National Health Service we were astounded by the level of poverty and deprivation that was commonplace. People could not afford treatment for the simplest of conditions or the most major traumas. We treated and advised on a range of conditions from unstable diabetes to untreated spinal fractures and birth defects. We did basic health checks, lifestyle and dietary advice as well reflexology treatments, massage and yoga classes. When we return next year we will be providing health education leaflets, equipment and medication. Our aim is to empower the community and leave a lasting legacy.
