MESSAGE FROM HARI

Dear Supporters

Due to the CoVid 19 outbreak I must postpone my Everest expedition until Spring 2021. Thank you so much for your support to date and we obviously still need your help as we continue to fundraise throughout the year.

Wishing good health to you and your families. Hari Budha Magar

Few people have been tested more than Hari Budha Magar.

Born in a remote area of Nepal in the shadow of the Himalayas, where life was a constant struggle, Hari chose to join the Gurkhas. While serving in Afghanistan he was hit by an IED resulting in both his legs being amputated above the knee exposing him to physical and psychological forces few will ever face. He lost the will to live but gradually regained his self-esteem and confidence through sport after he joined the On Course Foundation - a charity that supports injured military through golf. This gave him the self-confidence to take on the challenge of Everest and to inspire people facing physical and psychological challenges everywhere in the world. Summiting Everest will enable Hari to spread disability awareness globally, as well as the opportunity to raise funds to build a disability rehabilitation centre in Nepal - something he is passionate about. He just needs one final push to get there.

As a bilaterial above knee amputee, Hari will have to climb Everest 3 times over, making the climb even longer, steeper and higher. In this unprecedented climb, all conventional measurements will break down. What others deemed as impossible Hari will make possible. Where other climbers used physical ability, he will use emotional strength, proving to himself and others with disabilities that the force of human will overcomes all else.

“I found that nothing is impossible and life is an adaptation. It’s just a different way of doing things. If we can adapt our life according to the time and situation, we can make impossible things possible.”

In his training, Hari has already summited Mera Peak 6476m, Chulu Far East 6058m and recently Mont Blanc. He will not embark on this journey alone. Due to the longer duration of the expedition, it requires a large support team and more advanced technologies, clothing and supplies than ever before, plus equipment that can withstand not only Everest but the forces of the mountain multiplied by 3.

“Everest is not just my dream. I want to encourage everyone that you can fulfill your dream – no matter how great or small.”

This is an opportunity for Hari's supporters to help him in this extraordinary test of human strength. You can share this link with family, friends, colleagues, companies and individuals who could help but also donate through JustGiving.
