Story

The children's cancer ward at adenbrookes hospital and hearing dogs for the deaf both meant alot my grandad who I lost to cancer this year. He raised alot of money for many charities in his life and I want to continue his work. So I have decided I am going to swim 10km open water in buttermere lake in September. After a bad experience in cold water a few years ago one boxing day this is a huge fear of mine which is why I thought it would be the perfect challenge. Training has begun and I shall post some footage every now and then of my progression. As the water will be very cold and choppy I am hoping to complete the swim in 5-6 hours. Please support me as much as you can. The more we can get to help these people's quality of life will certainly give me extra push I will need. Thank you
Joe

Yesterday I set a goal of swimming 4km today, which is 5 laps of my training lake. I later found out a guy yesterday went into hypothermic shock and had a heart attack swimming. I had just about got control of my fear of the cold water and then boom it throws a left hook. I don't know if the guy is ok, hope he made it through. Cold water seems to be a dangerous beast no one will ever truly tame. I'm still going for it today but I'm bricking it. Thanks every one who has supported me so far!

This week has been a great week for me with my progression for this event. Through the start of May I really questioned if I had underestimated the distance I have entered for and not left my self enough time prepare... I can now say confidently I know I'm going to smash this. Not only am I going to complete this Swim,.. I'm going to do it in a respectable time and hopefully beat some other experience athletes in this sport. Today I swam 3.3km in about an hour and a half. That's one third of the total distance I must swim in the day.
