Hi my name is Kedra Weatherill and I am a 16 year old dancer who was born and raised in hull.
I started dancing at 3 years old and with my passion and hard work I have auditioned for and been successful in accepting a place at a prestigious dance school, KS Dance in Warrington. During my dance years I have passed numerous examinations in various genres, the last one being my Royal Academy of Dance Advanced One ballet exam. I have also achieved several distinctions in the past IDTA (International Dance Teachers Association) exams in which I am examined in Ballet, Tap and Modern Jazz. These results have given me the opportunities of performing at several IDTA Award days where I received much more knowledge, confidence and experience.
At KS Dance I will be completing a level 6 Diploma in professional dance and teaching with the duration of three years. Due to my age and the governing of the school, I do not qualify for a government student loan or maintenance grant. The course fees are £10,000 per year and as it’s a 3 year course. This cost doesn’t include rent fees, diploma fees, living costs, uniform or exams that are taken during the course. I therefore hope that by donations you could help me in making my dream come true.
My current dance school, Lyn Wilson and Heather Shepherdson School of dance (LWHS), has encouraged me in so many different aspects to broaden my opportunities in dance. I have previously successfully auditioned for the Hull New Theatre Christmas pantomime for 5 consecutive years. It was an amazing opportunity and chance to get a real feel of what a job in the dance industry is really like. Along with pantomimes, I have been a part of many dance school show productions. Furthermore I was given the opportunity to perform at the Royal Albert Hall in London for Dance Proms, which took place in November 2015. The performance was watched by many famous people including Darcey Bussell which was an absolute honour. Also, as part of the Hull City of Culture, in 2017, the Royal Ballet had a new project called Take Flight. It was to choreograph a show with all young dancers from Hull and to perform it outside Hull Minister which again I was given the great honour of being included in. These opportunities I have received have made me more determined to strive to fulfil my lifetime aspirations in the professional industry of dance.
Dancing is not just a hobby it’s my passion and my life. It’s a way of expressing my feelings and emotions into what I do to make my work interesting and emotive. By doing this it has helped me achieve several awards at the local dance competitions in which I took part in twice yearly. The latest one I participated in I received 1st place in my open ballet solo section. It is a fabulous feeling, accomplishing something you’re so determined in and work so hard for to get a great result. This is the same feeling I have now that I have the possibility to train at one of the most prestigious dance schools in the country.
When I was younger I danced at York Scholarship Associates, I completed 3 years and attended class every Saturday. It benefitted me a great deal; therefore I went on to audition for Northern Ballet Associates in Leeds and have been there for the past 4 years, every Saturday where I have been taught by outstanding teachers. I thoroughly enjoyed it and feel I have grown as a person and a dancer. With all of this fantastic training I would love to carry on growing and getting more intensive training by attending this superb dance school, KS Dance. This course is high level and would enable me to train to become the best dancer that I can be. I am very hard working, committed, determined and strong willed, this is what I want and I know I am capable of achieving it with the right help.
It would be fantastic if you could make a donation and help me achieve my goal of going to this dance school and making the future I have always dreamed of achievable. Thank you for taking your time to read this, I greatly appreciate it. Thank you.
