Uktarsh Anand Prasad is nine years old. He is the only child. Of Anand and Omwati Who here married in May 2006 ,Uktarsh lives with his mother and father and gandparents in Mumbai. Three years ago he was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease(CKD). He has now reached stage 5 renal failure and is in desparate need of a kidney transplant. He is on daily kidney dialsis at Bai Jerbai Wadia Hospital for children in Mumbai. I first met his father Anand in India in 2007 before Uktarsh was born. He was returning from a family wedding with his family. My friend and I were on the same train after being stranded at a station for two days due to a religious holiday. We had boarded without tickets. Anand introduced himself to me and in his typical friendly manner arranged our safe travel to our final destination. He even gave us his bunk bed for our safe passage, whilst He shared with his brother Ashok. both Anand & Ashok sponsor younger children from poorer areas in their community. In 2010 I returned to India for my birthday and went to visit Anand and his family meeting Uktarsh for the first time. When I arrived In Mumbai Anand met me and took me back to his house to meet his family who where awaiting my arrival. i was overwhelmed by the hospitality of his family who had waited up long into the night for my arrival. I had taken Uktarsh a football and he in return presented me with a Birthday cake , which everybody was enjoying well past mignight. I was given my new title as Uncle Lee. I spent the next few days getting to no his family , playing football with Uktarsh and was made to feel so welcome , friends and neighbours all came around bringing me food and wanting to meet this New Uncle Lee , i will never forget my feeling of pride.
It is now my turn to return this hospitality in the form of raising awarness and to help his family raise something towards his medical costs. Anand is now preparing to give his only son one of his kidneys after awaiting a possible donour is no longer an option. Im asking people to donate what ever they can afford and no what ever we manage to raise is going to such a worthwhile cause. Thankyou for taking the time to read this and please say a little pray for an amazing Brave little Boy.
