Story

These pages have been set up by this years Captains of The Manor House Golf Club, Castle Combe in order to raise as much money as possible during their year to benefit the Bristol Supporting Families Project, which have skilled, experienced family support practitioners, theraputic practioners and volunteers who actively engage families with emerging difficulties relating to their child or children.

Staff and volunteers are able to support an ethnically and culturally diverse population with the aim of helping to reduce identified risks and overcome specific issues relating to areas such as education, mental and physical health, substance abuse, bullying and parenting; this list is not exhaustive.

We aim to promote sustainability and change for children and families by working and supporting families for up to six months. The families referred to the service are those at Tier 2 / 3 within the framework of need; on the edge of statutory support.

The service completes a SAF Assessment (Single Assessment Framework) collaboratively with families and Family Support Practitioners become the pivotal point of contact; coordinating the Team Around the Family (TAF) meetings and engaging other professionals to support the family via an action plan.

Additionally, Family Support Practitioners, Therapeutic Practitioners and Volunteers also deliver direct engagement and support work to meet the outcomes identified within the assessment and action plan.

This service is available City-wide to children and young people aged between 0-19 years, with a particular focus on ages 5-13 years.

The Action Breaks Service provide exciting and safe residential short break holidays for children with disabilities.

The service offers an exceptional opportunity for children to enjoy and experience a time away from home, to have fun, make new friends, enjoy social occasions and be involved and try out lots of new activities of their choice.

Action Breaks provide holidays for children and young people of either sex, between the ages of 4 and 19 years old and who have specific needs arising out of a disability. This service also offers practical assistance and support to parent/carers.

Primary focus will be given to young people in Bristol and South West area but, where requested and assessed as appropriate, the service could be provided to additional localities if the capacity, funding and staffing allows.

The Bristol Contact Matters Service has been set up for children of divorcing or separating parents where there are difficulties or concerns about contact between the children and the non-resident parent.

The Separated Parents Information Programme (SPIP) group course for parents of children affected by parental separation is facilitated by the service.

The majority of referrals are taken from the Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service (CAFCASS) however a limited number of direct referrals through the National Association of Child Contact Centres (NACCC) for public and private law cases are also to access the service.

Bristol Supporting Families also strive to provide additional services and opportunities for children and families whilst building and maintaining effective working relationships and community links. Examples of additional services made possible by the generosity of donations include:

• Whole family picnics

• Trips to the theatre (Pantomime)

• Furniture including, beds, dining table chairs (so families’ need not have plates on their laps), chest of drawers

• White goods

• Bedding

• Christmas Hampers of food and toys

• Easter eggs

• School uniforms

• School equipment

• And much, much more!
