Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.
The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.
Last year, we were devastated to lose a wonderful colleague, teacher, mentor, and friend in Dr Nicole Bourque. Nicole was an inspiration to all of her students. Her lectures were legendary and a joy to attend and she never failed to encourage and challenge us. We are all indebted to her in various ways; Nicole was fiercely kind and tremendously supportive to all of us, and perhaps especially towards undergraduate students, who benefitted enormously from her sage 'tales from the field' before going off to carry out their own fieldwork for their dissertations (that she always supervised with great care, enthusiasm, and compassion).
Nicole's generosity knew no bounds and as a way of thanking her and honouring her legacy, we intend to establish the Nicole Bourque Prize for Undergraduate Research, a cause that Nicole was passionate about. Undergraduate students often have imaginative and exciting ideas for their dissertation topic, but unfortunately these ideas often cannot be realised due to the lack of funding available for undergraduate research in the social sciences. We hope to rectify this!
Our target is £1000 as this will allow us to establish the prize for the academic year 2017/18 and continue it in 2018/19, with the aim of finding institutional funding to support this thereafter. If we are successful, the Nicole Bourque Prize for Undergraduate Research will be awarded annually to a Junior Honours student in the Sociology subject area at the University of Glasgow and will provide £500 to support fieldwork (which may cover costs such as flights, accommodation, and other research related expenses).
Help us celebrate Nicole; all donations most gratefully appreciated!
