Sheffield, UK

What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

Hi Everybody,

It is with a heavy heart I write this, my brother James Riley passed away on the 9th of April 2018 just after his 35th birthday.

A long story short, James was diagnosed with Olier's disease at the age of 2 which caused him many complications all throughout his childhood with extensive leg lengthening operations and procedures along the way, James never moaned or groaned, took every day in his stride.

3 years ago James was diagnosed with a rare brain tumour located on his brain stem, which meant there was no chance of operating, he had one course of radiation which proved ineffective and after that James let it run it's course fighting it on his own terms.

He started deteriorating just after Christmas of 2017, James was always positive and a true inspiration to all of his family and everyone who met him.

Along the way we have met some amazing people, nurses, hospice staff, doctors, critical care nurses, the list goes on. This is the reason I wanted to try and make a difference in the the name of James. I want to raise money for the Sheffield Children's Hospital, St Lukes Hospice and Sheffield MRI-PET Scanner Appeal.

During the last few months we spoke at length at about what he had done, what he always wanted to do, things he never got time to do. My plan is to list a few of these here, all friends and family can pick something they wouldn't normally do and do it in the name of James, help raise some money for some great causes.

- Sky Dive (James did this to raise money for the Children's Hospital a few years back)

- Fly a plane (Also something James did which he loved and said everyone should do)

- Swim with Sharks

- Bungee Jump

- Run a marathon (I'm sure he said this just to test us!)

- Climb a mountain

James always said “What's the worst that can happen?” I don't know if you have ever tried to argue with someone with a brain tumour when they say that, but you don't win I can assure you! That is why I will be trying to do everything on this list at some point. There are many other ways to raise money as you all know, these are just a few that he came up with, any money we get will be a bonus, these activities I hope keep his memory alive and also raise some money for great causes along the way.

Thank you for reading this story, if you have any questions please get in touch,

Take care and remember “What's the worst that can happen?”
