AS A RESULT OF THE INCREDIBLE FUNDRAISING DONE SO FAR...THE TARGET HAS BEEN UPDATED TO £350,000. WE ARE NOW GOING TO PROVIDE FIVE NEW ROOMS AT THE HOUSE, INSTEAD OF THE 3 ORIGINALLY PROPOSED. As well as this there will be an area of reflection (memorial area) for my family and other families who have lost loved ones...and also we will refurbish other areas of the House including the other bedrooms. Everything else below still applies. X
I was diagnosed with cancer in May 2017 which has since spread and become terminal in October. Time is precious.
For over 15 years, I have been involved with Ronald McDonald House Charities, for the past five years as Chair of the Manchester House Board of Governors and I have a passion for keeping families together, close to their children in hospital. Born and bred in Manchester, I have 3 boys myself and two grandchildren.
Although devastated by the cancer prognosis this year, I am lucky to be here having survived several cardiac arrests in October. My time is limited and I want to work hard to leave a lasting legacy, something that will have an impact for many years to come. So along with friends and family we are hoping to raise £250,000 for Ronald McDonald House, Manchester so we can help keep families together, close to their children in hospital.
Steve Burne Rooms
With my friends and family we are aiming to raise £250,000 to refurbish three living areas in the Manchester House. These areas would become larger family rooms. They will each have two separate sleeping areas that could accommodate up to six people, an en suite bathroom and a small informal living space. The rooms will be for our longer stay families, or families of five or more people.
Having gone through treatment myself, I understand how a young child might feel, and why it’s so important to keep their family close.

A new note from Steve:
When the charity said they would name the rooms in my memory, it was a bit embarrassing but I now realise this is for others as well as me and is a real honour. This will be my legacy and is therefore my plea to make it happen. As well as donating on here, you can do your own thing,,,sponsored events, make cakes, sell things, choose us as your charity...either giving directly on this page or by simply setting up a new page under this one as part of the team. I would love to see this happen before I die so...lets go people.
Our Ronald McDonald House in Manchester supports families whose children are undergoing treatment at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital. The 60 bedroom House provides a free, welcoming place to stay. Each bedroom can accommodate up to four people and the House has communal living areas such as kitchens, playrooms and a garden. Our staff are on hand to offer a listening ear and organise activities so families can take some time away from the hospital, to come together and share their experiences
There is a small chance that we will raise more money than is needed for this project. If this happens, we'll spend any additional funds on other Ronald McDonald House Charities projects – at Manchester.
Ronald McDonald House Charities is an independent charity registered in England and Wales (802047) and in Scotland (SC040717).
