Story

Save THE RUINED THEATRE for Abbey Wood!

For the first time since the Ruined Theatre was founded in 2021, we did not not receive Arts Council funding to bring theatre to the local area in 2024. With the support of the community and some generous sponsors we were able to bring Our Teacher's A Troll to the Abbey for summer 2024.

We are hopeful to return with more shows in 2025 but there is no guarantee of funding so we need your help to do this!

Since 2021 The Ruined Theatre has transformed the ruins of Lesnes Abbey into an outdoor theatre for six original productions and has entertained thousands of residents of Abbey Wood and Thamesmead, as well as bring new visitors to the area.

Alongside our the productions we engage with 400 primary school children every year in outreach work, offer free tickets to families in hardship and run mentorship courses to early career creatives. Offering everyone in the area first hand access to the arts and ensuring this theatre truly serves its community first.

Abbey Wood and Thamesmead have historically suffered from minimal investment, especially in art & culture. When Local resident and professional actress Nancy Sullivan founded The Ruined Theatre in 2021 it was the realisation of dream 10 years, combining quality theatre and economic investment to her much loved local area

The Ruined Theatre is now part of the fabric of Abbey Wood & Thamesmead. We bring employment to over 40 people per year, access to the arts for all and a celebration of this community every year. Abbey Wood has not had exposure to the arts as many other parts of London have,. The area has so much natural beauty but suffers from lack of support, please help us keep the theatre alive and contribute towards a new narrative for Abbey Wood and Thamesmead"

In 2024 The Ruined Theatre aims to return to Lesnes Abbey ruins for a fourth year, with a bigger and bolder production of our 2021 hit, Our Teacher's a Troll but need your help to make this happen and keep our much beloved theatre going!

HOW YOUR CONTRIBUTION WILL HELP

- By bringing Abbey Wood & Thamesmead’s only professional theatre company come back for a fourth year

- Bringing to life the fantastical puppets and music which will bring Our Teacher's a Troll to life!

- Providing subsidised discounted tickets to local residents within a 1.5 mile radius of the site

- Bringing employment to creatives and local residents.

- Giving local residents the opportunity to be mentored and involved in the creation of a professional production

As a Community Interest Company we are non-profit, this means everything goes back into the theatre for the community. We are excited about continuing our legacy from our successful first three years and hope to grow in ambition each year for our productions, our audiences and for the area.
