Over the first four Nottingham Life Cycles, the team rode almost 5,000 miles and climbed almost a quarter of a million feet. In the process they raised more than £1.5 million to support a range of causes.
The most recent ‘four corners’ challenge in 2014, to support the Children’s Brain Tumour Research Centre raised £786,000, an extraordinary total which was only possible by the equally extraordinary support from so many.
Life Cycle 5 will be a bit different. Rather than a single endurance ride, the team will be undertaking a series of challenges over the next six months, some day long, some over a weekend, like the ’Way of the Roses’ from one side of England to the other, and ‘Lochs and Glens’ from Inverness to Glasgow. Structuring this year’s Life Cycle in this way will allow us to offer more opportunities to more riders to take to the saddle in support of dementia research.
Managing dementia and its consequences for patients and carers is an increasingly pressing challenge. Indeed, one in three of us has a friend or close family member with dementia, and that is growing. Yet, it receives only about 1/12th of the funding devoted to cancer.
Our target is to raise £350,000 to enable us to use our Nobel Prize winning expertise in MRI scanning to conduct world-leading research into the different ways that dementia damages brain cells. So, please support us as generously as you can.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the University. Thank you for your generosity.
