Story

27 August 2015 ~ We are very sorry to have to update this page with the news that Benji passed away yesterday, at the grand old age of 19. Our thoughts are with his foster family, who have taken such great care of our boy over the last 4 years. Sleep tight little one.

We will leave this page running for anyone who would like to make a donation to Oldies Club in Benji's memory.

Brave Benji is a little Corgi cross who came into the care of Oldies Club, a volunteer-run dog rescue charity, several years ago when his elderly owner very sadly passed away.

A few months ago, Benji had surgery on one of his eyes due to an ulcer and he recovered well. He has unfortunately now developed a second ulcer on the same eye and the options given were to remove the eye, let him live with the ulcer, or have Benji put down. Benji is having his eye removed on Thursday 19 March. Oldies Club would really appreciate you making any donation you can spare to help with the costs of Benji's surgery - and please share this link with your dog-loving friends, family and colleagues to encourage support from them too :-)

We make decisions for the dogs in Oldies Club foster care as we would for our own dogs and leaving the ulcer, which might at some point rupture, was not a consideration. Apart from his poor eye, Benji is fit, walks a couple of miles every other day and is still feisty, bless him!

The £800 target given for this page at the time of writing cover the surgery he had earlier in the year and the estimated cost of him having his eye removed. Although it is a lot of money for a small volunteer-run charity to find, Benji's an amazing little dog and we were all in agreement that we should give him a chance with the surgery. We are also extremely grateful to the vet for heavily discounting the treatment because we are a charity and this eye has been operated on before.

Benji is one of our sponsor dogs. After assessment in his foster home, due to various health issues and his age, Oldies Club made the decision to place Benji into the charity's foster dog scheme, which means he has remained with his lovely forever foster home, with the charity covering all of his vet bills.

Thank you, in hope of your support for Benji's fundraising :-) Please note that should Oldies Club supporters be generous enough to donate more than is needed for Benji's vet bill, any excess money will be directed to the charity’s general fund and used to help other older dogs in its care.
