Story
On the 10th October we are going to attempt the Yorkshire 3 peaks challenge, a walk of 24.5 miles climbing the 3 highest peaks in the Yorkshire Dales in under 12 hours, this is to raise money for a wonderful charity called NASS (National Ankylosing Spondylitis Society).
My Mum has suffered with Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS) for most of her life but is often gets mis-diagnosed for years, but 6 years ago her Rheumatologist confirmed she had a this disease. For more information on the actual condition please look the Arthritis Research UK or NASS Websites.
Unfortunately my Mum's AS has left her with little mobility and has to rely on her mobility scooter/wheelchair and walking sticks, around the house she is able to shuffle around but has no 'stride' anymore. Doing the simple things such as getting out of bed, shower, or even cook dinner can be a struggle. She does have good days where she won't be as sore and stiff but there are some days when it's too painful to sit down. With the help of NASS she is able to have a support network who all suffer from this debilitating disease, seek help where she needs it and provide funding into research.
There is no known cure for AS it does spread to other parts of the body and can have devastating consequences. Hopefully with the money you help us raise we can make my Mum and others lives a bit more comfortable and continue the great work NASS do.
Walking up the 3 Peaks in Yorkshire to raise money is the least we can do to help Mum and other AS suffers. If you have any queries or want to know more about our challenge or NASS please get in contact.
Thank you so much for taking time to read our short story
