Story

On the 5th April 2013 my wife went into labour with our twin daughters, Darcey & Erin, 5 weeks early. They were born late that night by emergency cesarean at Addenbrookes hospital in Cambridge.

The twins could not tolerate their feed and were taken to special care where they spent the next 2 weeks with various drips and tubes. Whilst my wife was still on the ward I had to adhere to their visiting hours and make the 70 mile round trip in everyday.

This was until the people at the Sick Children's trust put us up in Chesnut House, a residential block within the hospital for the parents of sick children. This made a huge difference to us, I could stay with my wife and we could be with the twins whenever we liked… There were no visiting times in the special care unit.

After 2 weeks the girls were well enough to come home where they remain fit and healthy. We were both so grateful for the support we had and had always vowed to do something to try and raise money for them. Needless to say that life with newborn twins and me back at work meant finding the time a challenge, until that is….

A good friend of mine, John Frith, had read all about a guy called Tommy Godwin. In 1939 Tommy set a world record by cycling 75,065 miles in a year, an average of 205 miles everyday!

John sent an email to a few of us who "had bikes and had been known to ride them!" and suggested a ride of 205 miles in 1 day in homage to Tommy.

Keen to take on the challenge I agreed and also suggested the ride could be a great way of making some money for the sick children's trust.

So… on the 23rd June 2014 John, myself and 9 others will be taking part in a ride covering a distance of 205 miles in just 1 day! We are being supported by the good people of Velopro, a new cycle shop to Bury St Edmunds. We will set off at sunrise and finish before sundown… Hopefully!!

Please give as generously as you can to this huge challenge for a great cause!
