Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit Molly's JustGiving page.

Hello, my name is Molly, I am 5 years old and I have Spastic Diplegia Cerebral Palsy. My family are fund raising for me to have an operation called Selective dorsal rhizotomy, which will hopefully help me to walk. Please help make my dream come true.

I came into the world earlier than expected, on Christmas Day. I had a very traumatic birth. My Mummy was in labour for a very long time and I suffered Hypoxic-Ischemic Enncephalopathy (oxygen deprivation) and subsequent development of periventriclar leukomalacia. After I was born, I was transferred to the Trevor Mann unit in Brighton Hospital, with the best nurses and doctors - they managed to save my life. As I got older I wasn't meeting my milestones. I found it difficult to sit up, whilst friends my age were running around. After my 2nd birthday I was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. This causes the muscles in my legs to be very tight and quite painful, I often wake in the night with pain and muscle spasms.

I use my walker and wheelchair to get around. I'm unable to stand unaided. I go to a mainstream school as I'm a bright little girl but sometimes I get quite frustrated as I'm unable to keep up with my friends. Considering everything I've been through, you will never see me without a smile on my face!

My sister Matilda is my best friend. I have to do lots of exercises every day, she always helps me and makes them really fun. Her wish is to one day walk with me too!

We are hoping to raise £60,000 to enable us to take molly to St. Louis Children's Hospital in America. Dr Park has been performing the operation for over 25 years. They cut some of the nerve fibres that come from the muscles into the spinal cord, this will remove the spasticity from the legs, making it a lot easier for Molly to move around and hopefully help her to walk. We are also hoping to raise enough funds for her intense therapy following the surgery too. Without this, it would not be a success.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my page. Please donate and help make my wish come true. Molly xxx
