We all know about the current situation concerning the displaced peoples of the world and the dangers many are facing trying to flee war torn countries and places effected by environmental disaster. 

I want to try to do something to help. I have successfully raised money by swimming in the past so I figure that's probably my best something. I therefore have decided to swim twice around Brighton Pier everyday for a month. Some days the conditions may be too rough so I will basically do it 31 times as consecutively as possible.

I will donate all money raised to The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner For Refugees. I am assured by my wife Amanda (if you know her you'll know she knows a thing or two about this sort of thing) that this is the organisation best equipped to make the most out of the money donated. 

They say :

"UNHCR seeks to reduce situations of forced displacement by encouraging states and other institutions to create conditions which are conducive to the protection of human rights and the peaceful resolution of disputes. In all of its activities, the refugee agency pays particular attention to the needs of children and seeks to promote the equal rights of women and children"

I originally set my fundraising target at £350. This is the amount the UNHCR say will provide a winter proofed tent for a displaced family. However to my amazement I smashed that total within the first week. I have since increased the total 3 times now and the target now stands at £1200.00! I in no way anticipated peoples kindness and support, when I set the original target the idea of increasing it by nearly £1000 after 18 days was inconceivable. I feel truely blessed to know so many generous hearted people.
