Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On the 6th of September 2006 my life was changed forever when I stood on an anti-personnel mine near Kajaki in Helmand Province, Afghanistan and I lost my left leg above the knee. I also received a number of injuries to my remaining right leg but thankfully this was saved from amputation due to the fantastic work done by all the subsequent medical staff immediately after the incident both in Bastion field hospital and Selly Oak hospital in Birmingham.
Due to the heat predicted on the day of the Colchester PARAS10 this year, the organisers postponed this event until later on in the year, so I have decided to do the Catterick PARAS10 instead, as it falls on the 9th anniversary of THAT day.
The 'PARAS10' is a 10 mile forced march, similar to the '10 Miler' that potential Paratroopers must pass during 'P Company', which is a series of tests recruits must undertake and pass in order to Parachute and earn the Parachute Regiments Maroon beret and have the right to wear 'Para Wings'. I won't be attempting to beat any P Company fastest times, but I am hoping to complete it in 3 hours, so all you 'Best P Company recruits' can rest easy.
Since that day I have received help from numerous Military charities to help me live as normal a life as possible, so I like to do sponsored events for each of the charities that have helped me along the way. This time I will be raising money for 'SUPPORT OUR PARAS', a charity which supports The Parachute Regiment through the welfare of serving soldiers and families and those affected by recent operations, and through the maintenance of its regimental efficiency, ethos, spirit and heritage.
