Story
About a year ago, I had just been made redundant for the second time in a year. I was massively unhappy and having had depression since I was 13 anyway, this laid me very low indeed. I also was going through about a 3rd year of having terrible problems with anxiety as well.
Apart from my wife and family, I honestly felt like I had nothing to live for. I needed something to give my life direction and something possitve to do. Needing to confront my problems with travel anxiety in particular, I needed a challenge that would help me face these problems head on and beat them.
I had always loved mountain walking and wanted to do a bigger mountain than anything I had done before. A quick search online and there were a lot of opportunities. I stumbled across a site doing mountain walks for charities. This was perfect!
I selected climbing Kilimajaro for the NSPCC. This would allow me to face my travel anxiety head on and also raise money for a childrens charity.
As a child I was adopted. To go from being unwanted, to a child that had a loving family, made me very lucky indeed. I was given every opportunity and had a great childhood. A mother that cared and a father that took me to rugby and to walk mountains in the Lake District.
The NSPCC help out children who don't have the luck and opportunities I got. So many children in the UK live through poverty and abuse. They need all the help they can get, as they cannot help themselves.
Every child deserves a childhood! Lets help them have one.
