In 2013 our Grandad was diagnosed with dementia, a disease that causes the structure and chemistry of the brain become damaged. Symptoms include losing the ability to remember, understand, communicate and reason. Dementia is progressive, which means the symptoms will gradually get worse- there is no cure.

The Alzheimer’s society leads the fight against dementia; providing vital information and support to families, as well as funding research to one day create a world without dementia. They recognise the tremendous strain dementia can put on loved ones. In our family, this is our Grandmother, who is now the primary carer for our Grandad.

We have witnessed first hand the cruel effects of this disease, and want to raise money for all dementia sufferers by completing the 3 peaks challenge on the 28^th August. This involves climbing the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales- typically within 24 hours.

This is a family effort. Our team comprises brothers Ben and Brad; along with their cousin Joe, climbing the mountains. In addition, both of our Dads, Pete and Roger, will be contributing by doing the long drive between the 3 mountains.

For an ambitious challenge we’ve set an ambitious target of £1550. This is enough to fund a PhD researcher for 1 month, in order to continue vital research into understanding the causes of dementia, how it can be treated and, ultimately, to find a cure.
