We are choosing to do a triathlon, because we can - it's a challenge for us. Unfortunately those fleeing Syria do not have the choice of the challenge they face.
We will swim in an open lake with many cheering us on knowing we will get to the end -
Unlike those refugees who jump on a boat in hope , risking the water because it is safer than the land they are fleeing from. They do not get cheers, they have the company of the chilly water and the fear of not making it.
We have seen the images - the desperate, despairing images that will haunt many of us and remind us of our failure as a human species. Our tears do not compare to those who will never see their families again. We are doing this to raise vital funds so that we do not have to witness another Baby Aylan washed up on shore along with our humanity.
We are supporting Syria Relief for their Emergency Refugee Crisis Appeal so please donate however much you can.
Syria Relief have been on the ground since the start of the civil war providing medical aid, orphan support and education amongst other things. This work is much needed - Syria is in a dire state and only those fit and able are able to flee. Many of the elderly and orphans have no way of leaving the country.
They have taken quick action in response to the refugee crisis both internally in Syria and in Europe and are sending aid convoys to the European borders to help those who have made it through land and sea and now need to make it through the harsh weather.
We thank you all for your support and kind donations. Please do share and give what you can.
With love and gratitude,
Zakia, Sakira and Rukiyah
