At YBTC, we walk beside anyone impacted by a brain tumour diagnosis through every step of their journey. Our local support brings comfort, care, and hope to families across Yorkshire- while our local research and investment in 'pump priming' brings us closer to kinder treatments and a cure.

Story

On Saturday 5th September, I will be attempting a half ironman distance triathlon in memory of Matt Donley.

Unlike most people who enter a triathlon, I’m not a super fit triathlete, I’m not a skinny gym goer, and I’m far from an endurance athlete!

I’m a regular working mum, who eats too much, drinks too much and almost faints atthe thought of running a mile.

Many people ask me why an earth I’m attempting such an extreme event. Because, I believe that if you are determined enough, you can amaze yourself at what is
possible.

The Sundowner Middle Distance Triathlon, is half ironman distance. It's involves swimming 1.2 miles in a cold lake, cycling 56 miles and then running 13.1 miles (a half marathon) – all in as little time as possible. To achieve this I need to become super fit and lose at least 3 stone.

This triathlon is one goal, but equally important is raising money for BrainTumour Research and Support across Yorkshire. This incredible charity makes a
huge difference to people’s lives, all of whom are going through the unthinkable.

Our dear friend has recently lost his battle to this awful disease. Matt Donley was initially diagnosed with a benign tumour in November 2011, he went through a huge operation in August 2012 to remove most of the tumour, although this took a lot of recovery the operation was a success. Matt and his then girlfriend (now wife) Jo, looked forward to bright and healthy future together. In December 2013, Matt got the devastating news that the tumour had returned, and sadly, was cancerous. On Wednesday 17th June 2015, heaven gained another angel.

The strength, determination and positivity Matt showed throughout his battle was truly inspirational.

All donations of any amount, are so gratefully received. They all go towards supporting people like Matt in their own battles. As well as all the support they offer, Brain Tumour Research and Support across Yorkshire, are determined to one day help find a cure. Your kind donations are what will help them do this.

Thank you so much in advance

Alexia
