Story

26.2 miles for Babies in Buscot

It is done!  A massive thank you to everyone who donated.  I'd also like to thank the people of Bournemouth for their wonderful support on the day.

I completed my first marathon in 4 hours and 15 minutes.  I stuck to my game plan and kept a nice even pace going right up to the massive hill at 18 miles, then my plan changed slightly.  To be fair it was still the same plan, I just executed it much, much slower.

I'd never run more than 20 miles before and several times during that last hour I thought I'd have to stop, but I'm pleased to say I kept running, even if at times I helped to re-define the lower boundaries of forward velocity that most people would consider as running.  At the risk of over-simplifying the complex range of emotions I was going through at the time, I could most accurately sum it up like this: my legs hurt.

Anyway, the important thing is we raised some more money for BIBS and continue to support the lovely people of Buscot Ward, the premature baby unit at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, who did so much for my friends' son Henry when he was born at 28 weeks in November 2008.
