Story

Every 30 seconds, a child is taken from their home village and is thrown into a world of forced labour, into brothels, construction sites or factories. It shatters the lives of 1.2 million children every year.

I visited Cambodia earlier this year to find out more about the global issue. To be able to trace the steps of girls my age who have had a very different, horrific life was truly powerful - as well as heartbreaking. I ran a short baking workshop in a village there, equipping young girls with the skills they need to generate an income. However, you don't have to travel halfway across the world to be able to have an impact, everyone can raise money to end the horror of modern slavery. It costs just £36 to protect a child from being trafficked, so I'm aiming for £3600 - enough to help protect 100 children.

Why 21 hours, I hear you ask? Nazeeb was just 14 when traffickers came to his home and deceived him with lies of a better life in the city. He went to work in Punjab, where he was locked in a factory and forced to work for 21 hours a day - in cramped conditions - for no pay. Luckily, Nazeeb escaped and managed to get home, where, with Tearfund's support, he helps his family raise chickens.

Baking for 21 hours will allow me to experience just how horrendous this was for Nazeeb and many, many other children in similar situations. I will then hold my own Big Bake sale, selling everything I have made to raise money for this fantastic cause. Please support me and follow my progress on Twitter! #BigBakeathon #nochildtaken #antislaveryday
