For almost two and a half years I have been fortunate enough to live and work in Fiji, and see firsthand what kind of challenges people in this country face. GVI's Charitable Trust has allowed us to carry out large infrastructure projects, which would not be possible without fund raising. Now that I have seen what the Charitable Trust can do for the communities that we work in, I would like to do something in return.

On July 1st I shall walk out of my front door and begin a 1027 mile hike around the Welsh coastline and English border before finally returning to where I started. From Rhoose Point, the most southerly point of Wales, I shall travel west towards Pembrokeshire, up the coast to Anglesey, turning east to Chester before striking out south on the Offa's Dyke Path. I shall be carrying what I need with me and aim to do the trek in fewer than seventy days and you will be able to track my progress on GVI Fiji's Twitter and Facebook pages.

All the money that I raise will be used to fund a purpose built vocational training centre in the remote district of Dawasamu in Fiji. In the time that GVI has been in the area, we have put a huge amount of time and resources to improving local schools but still many students leave without any qualifications. An absence of vocational training opportunities means that many young men and women return to their communities without the skills required to generate income outside of subsistence agriculture. 

By building a training centre, we can create an environment where young Fijians can learn new skills that will strengthen their communities and further their opportunities. In turn, this will assist the community in maintain their traditional way of life whilst finding ways to make it more sustainable in the future.
