The three of us (Hugo Bromell, Tom James, and Rory McMillan) are planning to cycle to all of the countries in the British Isles, travelling through England, Scotland, Northern Island, The Republic of Ireland, Wales, and then finally back home. It will be a 1500 mile round trip and we'll have 35 days to do it in. It will all be to raise money for the RNLI as they were our house charity at school and you never know when you might need them!
When it dawned on us how long our gap years truly were we decided to make the most of it and do something challenging that we would remember for the rest of our lives. After a few weeks of thinking about what to do whilst keeping down the cost (and maximising the time taken) we decided that travelling around the UK would be perfect for us. Initially we were planning on driving around but in the end we decided (somewhat reluctantly) to save some money and cycle around instead - even though none of us had done any proper cycling before April this year!
We all signed up for cycling last term and have been trying to get as prepared as we can for the trip ever since (although our exams did mean we had a bit of a break). Since then we've sorted out our bikes, got a tent (which we hope is waterproof) and planned most of the route. The aim is to leave on the 7th of August, and until then the training continues!
If anyone has anything to donate it would be very helpful! anything from some personal advice on long distance cycling to a donation to the RNLI will all be appreciated!
