Anthony Millet and Patrick Colquhoun are shortly to commence the Mongol Rally 2015, driving from London to Mongolia in a highly unsuitable vintage 1986 Porsche 944.

Most teams struggle to complete the challenge without the additional task of playing golf in every single country en route – are we mad?!

Our route will see us travel through up to 18 countries, covering some 11,000 miles and 18 rounds of golf. We will encounter some of the worst roads (not even sure you can call them roads), corrupt border officials, and undoubtedly many mechanical difficulties. We will also encounter some of the most incredible less trodden/visited parts of the world including the old silk road, the Pamir Highway, and some of the most generous and humbling people (will confirm on our return!).

Are we crazy – probably – and why the golf? Well we are both golf enthusiasts (but pretty poor ones, with a handicap of 18) – we figured seeing as we are going all this way, why not explore some of the worlds best golf courses – our route will see us take huge diversions to play them, and also involve us building the first course in Turkmenistan. The car has been heavily modified for the golf theme as you will see in the picutres!

Why are we doing this? Quite simply we are doing this to raise money for a fabulous charity – Broomwood in Ethiopia.

Broomwood in Ethiopia have set up and entirely funded St George's School Ethiopia providing education, meals, uniform and health checks to vulnerable young children, many of whom have been orphaned.

We are aiming to transform the lives of some of the children from this poor community. We have already held a successful fundraiser in London with over 200 guests but and in order to raise as much as possible we are also trying to build the profile of the adventure and charity through press coverage. To date we have raised over £23,000 online and offline.

We have been very lucky to have been supported by so many individuals and sponsors – all of who can be seen on our official website.

Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. We are raising funds for St George's Ethiopia, a charitable school build by the Broomwood in Ethiopia foundation.

40% of people in Ethiopia live below the poverty line, earning less than $1 a day, and the continuing food and water shortages cause high levels of malnutrition. St George's vision is to provide the highest western standards of education to some of the most deprived children in one of the world's poorest countries, giving them tools to improve their own lives and the lives of others. Without the support of St George's these children would not have access to any education, because their families simply cannot afford it.

St George's School is located in Azezo, a small township near Gondar, 400 miles northwest of Addis Ababa. The school opened in March 2014, and has since expanded to provide for 150 children, but the aim is to build a capacity of 700 - 1000 children. St George's will provide every vulnerable child with uniform and school equipment together with two nutritious meals a day, basic healthcare and annual development checks.

Providing free education and care to these vulnerable children can make a world of difference and even a small donation can make a huge impact. Only £2 will provide a child with 2 nutritious meals a day, while £250 will send one child to the school for a year, covering their education and care as well as uniform, stationary and meals.

Phase 2 of construction is about to begin, which will expand the school, giving 4 additional classrooms plus a library and an IT centre, at an estimated cost of £85,000. The expansion will allow for an intake of an additional 50-100 five year-olds in September 2015. The rate of progress will match the availability of funds, but St George’s will eventually have 10 year groups of children, age 6-16, with between 50 and 100 in each group.

The amount of money that Team Mongolf raises will directly impact how many children St George’s can educate, so please, help us make a difference!
