The Challenge. A group of gymnasts and their coaches will climb the height of Everest, 8848 metres, in rope climbs. These gymnasts climb the 5 metre rope, using only their arms, a couple of times during a session. Over the next couple of months the gymnasts will average 30 to 40 rope climbs per week until they have reached the target of 1770 rope climbs

Why? An estimated 8 million people have been affected by the devastating earthquake which struck on Saturday 25^th April.  A second earthquake hit the country on 12^th May. Hundreds of thousands of people, many in remote villages, have had their homes destroyed and are in urgent need of food, water, shelter and medical care.

They know they just have to get on with it, if their land is swept away, their home flattened or a child dies. How your donation will be used. Fortunately there are many disaster relief agencies that have responded quickly and provided urgent care to many people in remote areas. However contaminated water and poor sanitation in the aftermath of the Nepal earthquake can lead to potentially serious outbreaks of disease.

The money raised from this rope climb will go direct to The Rotary Club of Huntingdon who will arrange for Shelter Boxes to be purchased and delivered through Rotary to the people of Nepal. Each Shelter Box costs £590 and includes a tent, thermal blankets, water storage and purification equipment, solar lamps and cooking utensils. See http://www.shelterbox.org/  for more information. We will also donate money to Rotary’s Donation Trust which has been set up for the Nepal Earthquake Appeal, to provide support for sustainable community projects once the immediate emergency has been dealt with.
