MCAI is an international medical charity dedicated to saving the lives of pregnant women, babies and children by training healthcare workers in emergency management of obstetric, paediatric and neonatal care, renovating and refurbishing health facilities and supplying medical equipment and medicines

Story

Please sponsor our run if you'd like to help us raise money for MCAI's emergency healthcare programmes in some of the poorest and most war ravaged areas of the world.

Every minute, somewhere in the world, a woman or girl dies during pregnancy or childbirth. Worldwide, almost 7 million children under five years old die each year.

MCAI is addressing these problems using a sustainable whole system programme for the emergency care of pregnant women and babies. They work to strengthen existing healthcare systems at the invitation of national governments.

Here's how they do it:

  • Training traditional birth attendants and village health workers as well as local midwives, nurses and doctors in emergency healthcare.
  • Encouraging education programmes to provide in-country instructors, thereby achieving a sustainable outcome.
  • Developing and distributing free, up-to-date and evidence-based medical teaching materials.
  • Advocating for improvement with governments to renovate hospitals, provide medical equipment, drugs and supplies for managing emergencies.
