Story

Suicide is the biggest killer among young men in the UK. Every year over 4,500 men end their lives - giving a shocking figure of 12 male suicides a day. I discovered this fact whilst desperately searching for answers when my brother Arron took his own life in August last year. I don't believe my family or any of Arron's many many friends will ever fully come to terms with the great and devastating hole that Arron's death has left in our lives neither will we ever have the many 'What Ifs?' answered. The idea that the tragedy could have been prevented if only he had opened up more is torture. There is nothing that can bring Azz back to us, we will keep him alive through our many thoughts and memories of him, however what we can do is contribute to the help that is out there for young men in the UK feeling at a loss and not knowing where to turn. CALM, the campaign against living miserably offers men information when they’re down or in crisis at www.thecalmzone.net. It is only a small charity but by fundraising and raising awareness we can help put the word out to young men needing a person to listen to their troubles and advise them on where they may find the help they need to get them through the difficult times.

With the help of others I hope we can all find the time to do as many fundraising activities as we can for CALM in the future:

6th February 2014 - Steph's Bags will be holding a handbag party at The Vic Inn Burntwood. 25% of the profits made will be donated to CALM in memory of Arron. Thanks Steph : )

20th May - Coffee & Cake Morning @ Finning Training Department. Raising awareness and money for CALM whilst stuffing our faces with cake.  Employees of Finning donated cakes to the cause.  Thanks Jane : )

21st May - Francesco Hair Aldridge will be hosting a 'Girls Night In with Hair Show & Catwalk' @ 7s Wine Bar in Burntwood. All proceeds to go to CALM in Memory of Azz. Thanks Dani : )

July 5th 2014 - Color Run - 5K run around the Manchester Etihad Stadium getting covered in paint powder in the process. I will be joined by Louise Dwyer; Charlie Clarkin; Laura Barnett; Emma Hargreaves & Sibby Brophy all running in aide of CALM.

August 2nd 2014 - Memorial balloon release followed by BBQ and fun activities for all the family including a raffle at The Vic pub. The evening will see DJ Cutloose entertaining us with his music beats. Although this event will be raising money for CALM more importantly it is a way of bringing all of Arron's family and friends together to remember and celebrate Arron.

August 17th 2014 - Myself , Louise Dwyer and Charlie Clarkin will be doing a 400ft Bungee Jump at Chepstow, This is a special event as it's the highest bungee jump in the UK.
