Story
During an inauspicious Sunday drinking session, two feckless Wandsworth residents Jon Wells and Paul Harper agreed to cycle further than they had ever attempted in their lives. The hapless combination of beer and bravado determined that Barcelona would be a suitable destination. These loosely tuned athletes would engage in a cycle that would encapsulate their enjoyment of beer and therefore would commence at the famous Young's brewery in Wandsworth and finish at one of the continent's premier brewers - the Estrella brewery in Barcelona. Their aim was to prove to themselves and doubtful colleagues that such an arduous route could be accomplished by the common man whilst enjoying the food and drinks so often avoided by more professional cycling enthusiasts. Two charities would benefit and the one chosen by me is Muscular Dystrophy UK.
Muscular Dystrophy has various guises but all share one common theme - a genetic disorder. The disease is not manifested by lifestyle choices but thrust on individuals and families simply by bad luck. Research on the disease is so important to assist those currently suffering from its debilitating effects but also to ultimately find a cure.
70,000 children and adults currently suffer from the disease and unfortunately members of my family are in this statistic.
Whilst I have undertaken some tough challenges in the past ( a marathon, white collar boxing, the Three Peaks) this is the first time I have asked for support for a deserving cause and the challenge is therefore suitably arduous. Please support me in my efforts.
