Story
Kev's story has made the news Click here to watch.
This summer Kevin Smith, a 58 year old cyclist from Harrogate, hoped to complete the Great Manchester Cycle ride with his son Mark, as they have done every year since the event's inception in 2011, but plans ground to a halt in January when Kevin was hit by an HGV while cycling home from work.
Despite
wearing a helmet Kevin suffered a critical head injury so severe that
he momentarily died in the ambulance that rushed him to hospital.
However, against the odds his recovery has been astounding. Within days he was able to communicate with his family, within weeks he was learning to walk again and now, just a few months since the accident that almost took his life, Kevin is already dreaming of getting back in the saddle.
Of course this year his son Mark will have to complete the Great Manchester Cycle without his dad by his side but Kevin is determined not to miss out.
So on 20th
June 2015, Kevin is
hoping to be fit enough to climb onto a stationary bike, supported by
his family and friends, to turn the pedals once again and every
stationary mile that Kevin and his supporters clock up on their cycle
computers will raise money for http://www.macmillan.org.uk/ a charity that means a great deal to Kevin.
