I'm quite sure all of us know at least one elderly person whether they be a relative, a friend a neighbour or someone you pass in the street on the morning dash to the shop for milk. You may offer to do their shopping when it snows, cook a meal or pop round for a cup of tea.

What you may not know is the thousands of elderly people across our country who live on their own, don't have people like you to make sure their ok, give them a hand, take them out for the day and offer friendship.

Contact the Elderly is a fantastic charity that through a countrywide network of over 4,500 volunteers offer these vulbnerable and lonely people a chance to connect with other people. Small local groups have volunteer drivers who elderly people from their own homes and take them to the home of a volunteer host where the volunteers and older people spend a few hours together having afternoon tea. It is a simple idea but one which has dramatic effects on the lives of these people.

I am running the British 10K to hopefully raise a bit of money to help this work continue. If you feel able to give any amount then follow the instructions on this page.
