St Albans 5k parkrun · 1 November 2014

Diabetes UK is the charity leading the fight against the UK's devastating and fastest growing health crisis, working to create a world where diabetes can do no harm. It’s a fight that involves all of us – sharing knowledge and taking diabetes on together. Join us.

Story

Unfortunately, last year my mum was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. Therefore, I wish to continue further to raise funds for Diabetes UK and make a difference to the 3.2 million individuals in the UK suffering from the condition.

Now some of you may be thinking that me running a 5k is nowhere near as challenging as swimming the length of the English Channel in a swimming pool. However, I am not much of a runner and this will prove  to be a big challenge for me. I have only run one timed 5k race and that was over two years ago at St Albans parkrun in a fairly modest 24mins34 sec.  If I could come anywhere close to that I will be happy, but completion is more important and even more importantly, raising funds by sponsoring me and donating to Diabetes UK.

If you want to support me on the day, the race is on Saturday 1st November, 9.00 am at Verulamium Park, starting and finishing near the museum end of the park. You can also run the parkrun for FREE. All you need to do is visit http://www.parkrun.org.uk/, register your details, print off your unique barcode and BRING IT to the parkrun.

The money which is raised could make a difference to my mum and all of the Diabetes sufferers in the UK. The money which is donated could help with care/support, research, campaigns, the prevention of Diabetes and ultimately a cure.
