Story

Hi my name is Ricky Houston and I have set myself a challenge of running 1000 miles in 10 months. For those of you that know me you know that I am not built like an athlete, but more like someone who can drink beer and play a few pub sports, so this will be difficult for a man of my frame. I aim to raise money for St Luke’s Hospice in Winsford, Cheshire.

St Luke’s hospice depends on charity donations to continually provide selfless care and much needed support to families that are facing a difficult journey with cancer and other life threatening illnesses.

I have seen firsthand what an amazing place this Hospice really is when in 2008 they showed so much support and care when my auntie Karen sadly lost her battle with cancer. The Staff were truly fantastic and would give you all the time in the world if you needed it, its a very special place. I will never forget what this hospice did for my family it was amazing at a very hard time for us all. It is now time for me to give something back to them so that they can continue to provide the support and care it has already given to so many families.

So here I am attempting to run 1000 miles by the end of Oct 2014. 1000 miles equates to 3.32 miles a day which may not sound much but if for some reason I am unable to run on a particular day, then I need to make the miles up on another day. I can’t afford to fall behind so I am determined to get out almost every day even if it pouring down with rain, howling winds or in minus temperatures. I will have to face whatever the big man upstairs throws at me.  Every mile will be run outside and not on a treadmill unless it is impossible to run outside i.e. I’m in a warzone.

To make donating a bit more exciting and fun, I am going to say something that I am likely to regret; but if anyone is feeling generous and donates £40 or more throughout the year then if they provide me a costume/outfit I will run a minimum of 3 miles in it. (Except anything that may get me locked up i.e. Mankini’s etc.). I will upload any pictures of me in costume onto my page.

If anyone wants to follow my progression I will give monthly updates via facebook or alternatively you can follow my weekly/monthly progress by adding me as a friend via Nike Running App.(free to download)
