Isla's Brighter Future Fund
On 7th October 2012 Mikey and Anna Cecil discovered that their 14 month year old daughter Isla had a very aggressive and rare tumour, called ETANTR, that had originated in her brain stem and had spread to her spine. Due to her age and the location of the tumour, it was inoperable and untreatable. Isla died exactly a month later.
There is not a day that goes by that Mikey and Anna do not miss Isla however they are very proud that her legacy lives on through the Isla Cecil Brighter Future Fund. Thanks to the amazing generosity and the numerous fundraising challenges undertaken by so many over the last couple of years they are thrilled to have already contributed £500,000 to INSTINCT - a 5 year 'platinum' research programme into rare childhood brain tumours (including ETANTR). The research programme, led by Darren Hargrave, Isla's oncologist at Great Ormond Street Hospital, was launched at the end of last year with a £4m funding commitment.
The Fund continues to work with GOSHCC to raise much needed funds to support research in this field, in the hope meaningful progress will ensure other children do not have their lives taken away so cruelly at such a ridiculously young age.
