VSO is an international development organisation that brings people together to share skills, build capabilities, and change lives to make the world a fairer place for all. Everyday, VSO volunteers are working to empower people living in some of the world’s most marginalised communities.

Story

I want to say a huge thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page :)

In July 2015 I will be volunteering for 10 weeks on a development programme in Kenya. This is part of the International Citizen Service (ICS), which brings young people together to fight poverty and make a difference where it is needed most. I’ll be working alongside volunteers from Kenya, on a project, helping young entrepreneurs start up and manage micro-enterprises, with the aim of preparing them with the skills and knowledge to be the proponents of the sustainable development of their communities. ICS works with communities that have specifically requested their help. It also aims to inspire young people in the UK and overseas to become active citizens who are passionate about long term community development.

I need to raise £800 for Balloon Ventures who are one of the respected development charities that deliver ICS. This will allow them to continue to bring about positive change in the developing communities where they work. You can check out their amazing work here http://www.balloonventures.com/

Why am I doing this?

This is a dream come true, as an African I normally feel helpless in the struggle to change things.  I am extremely lucky to have the privilege of studying in the UK. It has truly opened my eyes, I currently study economics, and my heart aches as I think of the economic potential developing countries have. In Kenya over 67% of the youth (15 -35 year olds) are unemployed. This is a huge waste of ambitions and dreams, this project enables me to somewhat put my skills to good use. It gives me the opportunity to go further than just talking about ways in which African countries can change, and actually be part of the solution.

I will be doing various fundraising activities, which include:

·         Come dine with me special

·         Cake Sale

·         Spoken Word Event

You can keep track of how I get on here on my Justgiving page or my Instagram (@Afrocherii). Any contribution from you will make a real difference to the lives of people in developing countries, so please dig deep!

Thank you so much for your support!
