Emily fell ill in March 2015 with what we thought was a normal cough. On her second admission to hospital we were told she had a rare form of lung cancer (ALK +ve) which was non-curable, Emily was 32 and never smoked so the thought of terminal cancer was a huge shock to us.
At that point Macmillan came to see us; They helped us sort our finances, make plans for the days and weeks to come, encouraged and supported us through talking about death, and they also ensured that she was treated with dignity, even at the end stage they washed her hair and put make up on her so she would feel pretty right up until the end.
I can't thank Macmillan enough for their support and the fact they are still helping me now. As a paramedic I work with lots of health care professionals, but the Macmillan Nurses are right up there at the top of the game, with such a personal touch all the way through our ordeal.
Emily died on the 21st July 2015 only 1 month after her diagnosis and has left a gaping hole in so many peoples hearts.
So please dig deep and give to these wonderful people as this is a service the NHS can't afford and one we can't afford to be without.
Thank you
