Fundraising for Women V Cancer Cycle Challenges - Cycle Africa
Story
Ok, so my friend Lauren and I discussed doing this over one too many martins. She was definitely going to do it, I tipsily agreed to do it with her! (We've been through thick and thin together so it was a no-brainer).
Cancer is a disease that has had a huge impact on the women in my family, my Gran lost her life in October 2003 after battling the illness. My Aunty Judith has successfully fought both Hodgkin's and Breast cancer. My maternal grandmother missed meeting me as she lost her battle to breast cancer while I was still a bump.
The stoic strength with which theses women have dealt with their circumstances has moved me to want to take on this challenge.
When it came to signing up I was so nervous,can I really cycle 350k in the heat in Africa?? Well, I took the plunge anyway dispute my nerves (those of you who know me well will know I'm terribly risk averse!)
What I do know is that thinking of the women in my family who have fought cancer, and what they have been through, makes me determined to complete this challenge!
All of the money I raise will be dived equally between 3 charities; Breast Cancer Care, Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust and Ovarian Cancer Action.
I'm saving up £1400 myself to cover the costs of travel/accommodation etc, and I appreciate your generosity in helping me raise another £1600 for these great charities.
My deadline for fundraising is 9th August 2015, please help me get there :)
