Story

I am running Bournemouth Marathon on the 4th October, precisely 4 weeks away.  Why?  There's no other words required than a few words from Sandra Papuga, my mum.

------

My daughter contacted me and asked me to write a few words about suffering from Fibromyalgia…

The medical profession describe fibromyalgia as “a lifelong central nervous system disorder which is responsible for amplified widespread pain."

However fibromyalgia is far more complex than widespread pain.

Fibromyalgia steals your body, your energy, your health, your mind.  It steals your friends, your fun, and your special moments.  It steals your career and it steals your life.  Fibromyalgia steals the person you used to be.

I never know what I’m going to be like from one day to the next.  What I do know, however, is that I’m going to be in pain.  Its hard to describe the pain - it’s constant, it’s like being hit by a bus and the bus reversing over you again just for safe measure. Imagine waking up every morning not knowing if you are actually going to be able to get out of bed.

There is no cure for fibromyalgia, but there is research going on all the time.  Unfortunately, it is not on the government’s radar, so any money received by way of sponsorship is gratefully received.

------

No matter what pain I feel during my run (or in life for that matter) nothing compares to what my mum goes through every single day.  Please help donate whatever you can.
