Story

Thanks so much for looking at the Songs for Syria page.

This page and the concert that will take place on 25 October 2014 have been created to help raise awareness of the help that is needed in Syria at the moment.

My first experience of Syria was in 2010, one year before the Syrian Uprising. I visited my brother and sister-in-law who were then living in Damascus. It was a great few days and a wonderful introduction to the Middle East. I found the people warm and welcoming, the architecture was incredible and as for the food...I can't say I've tasted better. Things have changed a lot since then...

There are now currently an estimated nine million Syrian refugees. Many of these have been displaced within Syria but a lot have had to flee the country. Three million refugees have been registered so far with hundreds of thousands still awaiting registration.

Since the civil war began the UN estimates that at least one hundred and ninety one thousand people have died including nearly nine thousand children.

All of these refugees are unable to get regular medical care. But babies are still being born and people still need surgery or medication despite the war and Medecins Sans Frontieres are there to provide medical aid under very difficult circumstances. They need donations to carry on giving help to the Syrian people.

If you are able to give a donation that would be fantastic. Or if you want to come to the Songs for Syria concert that would also be great. But if you can't give anything, at least think about Syria and talk to other people about it. Remember all those innocent people who are suffering and deserve the same human rights that we take for granted in the UK. Help keep Syria in the limelight.

For those of you wanting to come to the concert, it will take place on 25 October 2014 at 7.30pm. The venue is Highfields Church, Monthermer Road, Cathays, Cardiff, CF24 4QW. Tickets are £10 (£8 concessions) and will be on sale soon. I look forward to seeing you there.

Thank you for taking the time to have a look at what Songs for Syria is all about.
