Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

The weekend of July 11th - 12th 2015 will mark the second time a team of gap personnel staff have scaled Snowdon in Wales, Scafell Pike in England and Ben Nevis in Scotland, all in the name of charity.

Our team this year comprises of:

  • Mark Roberts - Managing Director
  • Rob Webb - Operations Director
  • Liz Atkinson - UK Sales Director
  • Richard Thorne - Regional Director
  • Laura Daly - Regional Manager
  • Ross Sullivan - Regional Manager
  • Gary Richards - Area Manager
  • Lyndsey Hampson - Financial Controller
  • Antony Wheeler - UK Divisional Manager - gap technical
  • Tom woods - Branch Manager

Last time we were cutting it particularly fine (we blame the transport issues!) and so this year the team are determined to complete the challenge once again within 24 hours, hopefully with a little more time to spare.

While we support many local charities within our communities on an on-going basis, this year we have selected an international charity as our cause...

Transport is essential, not only for our own business, and those of so many of our valued clients, but for life itself. The reality for many people across Africa and the developing world is that access to transport is poor, inadequate or even unavailable, and issue particularly concerning in relation to healthcare, road safety and livelihoods.

Transaid is an international development charity that identifies, champions, implements, and shares local transport solutions which improve access to basic services and economic opportunity for poor people across Africa and in developing countries.

  • An estimated 75% of maternal deaths can be avoided through timely access to essential child-birth related care.
  • Road crashed kill an estimated 1.3 million people each year. In Sub-Saharan Africa, roach deaths are the third biggest killer following HIV / AIDS and malaria.
  • Up to 40% of harvests can be lost due to inefficient transport and impassable roads in rural areas.

Through combining the expertise of the UK Transport and Logisitics industry, with their own experience in international development, Transaid partner with local community organisations, governments, institutions and donors to achieve their aim surrounding the provision of innovative solutions to some of the key challenges facing transport and development today.
