Story

My story

Where to start back in 2007 my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer a disease which affects many people not only female but also male. I still remember being told the news something you never really expect to hear. If I had to describe the way it made me feel the best word would be a sudden emptiness it took a split second for not only mine but my entire families life's to change.

The Fight

My parents are by far two of the strongest people I have ever know in my life, they had already been through so much in life with my dad being ill from away back when I was a kid but they never let anything phase them. This was there exact attitude to the breast cancer. Mum and dad fought side by side against the disease for 5 years which was a constant battle of good days and bad days but they were optimistic and always took every day as it came. after mum had surgery to get her breast removed the cancer spread to her bones.

Mum was put on a trial course of drugs for a few years which helped keep the cancer at bay. her and dad enjoyed regular visits to the hospice and hospitals where they would meet up with other patients who were also on the same trial and dad is still close to some now even after the 3 years mum has been gone. During mums illness she tried to saver every moment she had left by giving her all to her ever growing line of grandkids my sisters 4 kids Lara, Nina, Eve and Lola and my own 2 at the time Stewart and Bayley. the love she showed for each one was incredible. I sometimes feel sorry for Lola, Bayley and the new addition to my own family Baby Clayton as the girls were just under a year old and baby clayton wasn't even born yet which means they never got to fully experience everything she had to give but you can be assured we will never let them forget her.

My sister

Yvonne Margaret Scott  is also another strong character in my life and the help and support she provided for both my mum and dad is excellent. Not only juggling her own life bringing up her kids and caring for mum while she was pregnant but also the every day tasks such as cooking cleaning ironing she deserves a reward for being such a strong person and the support she provided. she also arranged a charity event called party pink which was run almost every year which was a huge success in raising money for breakthrough breast cancer and also Marie curie. I wold like to thank her for all her hard work and dedication through the years she is definitely one of a kind.

Marie Curie

The reason I have choose to do this challenge for Marie Curie is to help support a worth while cause which helps families and patients not only come to terms with what they are going through but provide excellent care for patients. Mum had a few spells towards the end of her life within the Marie Curie hospice where they provided her with top class care and made our time there as enjoyable as possible while we were going through what I can only describe as one of the most horrible times of our life's. I would like to say a massive thanks to the hospice which is located at Stobhill hospital the staff are excellent, fun, understanding, and attentive, the work they carry out on a Dailey basis deserves to be rewarded and being able to help them with funding through this challenge is an honour to myself knowing they will be able to help other families in the way they helped mine.

I could go on forever about my families experience but the main reason behind the event is to raise money to help other families who are currently going through their own or families that no doubt will in the future. 1 in 3 people are affected by cancer and anything I can do to contribute towards them having the support they need I am willing to do. Personally I am looking forward to the challenge maybe not sitting on a bike saddle for 5+ hours a day but little pain like that has nothing on the amount of relief people will benefit from by me doing the event. I am not asking for everyone to donate a fortune but would ask everyone to share my just giving link so others can also donate. To reach my target it only takes 3500 people to donate £1 to a cause that affects everyone at one point or another in life.

Thank you
