I consider myself to be a very lucky boy - I've survived cancer, I've got a fantastic wife and two remarkable and beautiful daughters. Most importantly, they are healthy and free from the health issues that I have had to deal with, and this is something that, as a parent, I think about every day.

I have a new nephew  - he is quite beautiful, and brightens the world of his parents and bigger brother. I think he's quite lovely.

He also has Cystic Fibrosis.

In the past that was a very grave issue, and it would be remiss of me to suggest that their journey as a family will be an easy one. What I can tell you is that his parents are the type of people that don't quit, are resolute, and will do everything possible to make his life fantastic. This, coupled with continued support from the excellent Cystic Fibrosis Trust, means that even in the darkest times this lovely little man will have the best possible opportunity to live a long, normal life.

Those that know me will know that in the grand scheme of things competing in SSUK is fairly 'easy' for me. What people might not know is that I will have just finished 4 and a half months of intensive chemotherapy just two weeks prior to the event - I struggle to get up the stairs some days at the moment, and if I'm honest this is probably going to be the toughest thing I've ever done. I'm bald, I'm weak, and I've no muscle left.

But I watch this little poppet fight every time I see him, and how devoted his parents are to his wellbeing, and to be frank any sacrifice I make will pale into insignificance compared to what they have to do every day.

So sponsor me. Sponsor me because you like the thought of me suffering. Sponsor me because you're curious as to what might happen. Sponsor me because you like the idea of a fat bald bloke riding a bike in a really crap way.
